Welcome to the Powers of Ten blog

We are 100 days away from 10/10/10.

Powers of Ten Day will be a special day of screenings, workshops, and events around the world — not just October 10th, but throughout the month. It is all part of the Eames Office’s commitment to Powers of Ten thinking.

We believe that much of the magic and many of the problems of the world are matters of scale, and yet that we are not really wired to understand the extremes of scale — or even exponential change in general.

We believe that having a deep understanding of scale makes us all better citizens  of the world.

We believe that creating ways for people to have hands on experience with scale makes that understanding possible.

We believe that this website can be a powerful tool in achieving that understanding and giving individuals around the world new ways to understand the relative size of things.

Best,
Eames Demetrios

Any ideas for a graphic design assignment based on the powers of 10?

    Dear Joanne,
We have created a Powers of Ten booklet that accompanies the pair of DVDs when purchased at the Eames Office and helps give examples of how to lead Powers of Ten workshops.
    http://eamesgallery.com/cart/detail_prod.php?id=547
An example from the booklet is to show how a (profit or non-profit) company is helping its community at different powers of ten – from the individual to the collective.
Or you could ask the students to choose a topic and represent it at 4 differents scales on a single poster – at least one macro and one micro.
We also have set aside some free Powers of 10 workshop kits for educational institutions. If you have any further questions, please email info@eamesoffice.com.
    Best regards, Llisa
