UNITED STATES OF AMERICA

For a powers of 10 project, you could pick a state and look at different powers of 10 like land area in square kilometers, largest cities, natural land formations like depths of lakes, or elevation of mountains. You could compare the census reports (every 10 years) of a few cities and look at how the population has grown/shrunk/changed.  You could also find a common theme for 10 states.

For a powers of 10 project, think about how the land has changed over several powers of 10. You could pick the site of a state capital and think about what happened at that place at 100 to 10+6 years ago:

1 year ago (100)
10 years ago (10+1)
100 years ago (10+2)
1,000 years ago (10+3)
10,000 years ago (10+4)
100,000 years ago (10+5)
1,000,000 years ago (10+6)

You can ask questions like… Had the ground ever been under water, or part of rain forest, or next a river, or in a valley?  Or had dinosaurs lived there?  Were there any volcanos nearby?
